This is Debbie Norman's story about her amazing 60th birthday celebration that involved running 60 miles!
We first met Debbie when she came in for a running analysis late last year. She recently turned 60, and celebrated her birthday in an epic way. Debbie had decided that she wanted to run 60 miles on her 60th birthday. Yes you read that right! More importantly she wanted to accomplish doing this with her family along side. However, as all the best stories go, she did not think that her dream would be possible. Like most runners, she had nagging injuries and was unable to finish (DNF) a few of her ultras in 2019. You will have to see for yourself how her story finished! She wrote an amazing testimony.
Here is a brief excerpt:
I don’t remember exactly when the seed was planted in my brain. But by halfway through 2019, the seed had sprouted, sending down secure roots and furling leaves toward the sky. I was going to turn the big 6-0, and I wanted to celebrate in a dramatic way! I wanted to run 60 miles for my 60th birthday.

I had done a running assessment with a physical therapist in April after my first DNF, but he didn’t find a cause for my injury. After the second DNF in October, I decided to try again. I found a physical therapist who did high-tech running assessments, including placing sensors on certain muscles to see which ones were firing and which ones were not, as well as using computer software to analyze the video of my running and measure important joint angles (Dr. Don C. Dequine Jr. PT, DPT, CSCS at Freedom Physical Therapy, Shawnee, Kansas).
...
Remarkably, during the entire 60 miles I had no problems at all from my previous injury spots. Not even a twinge. I am so thankful!
Way to go Debbie!
