Bethany was born and raised in Shawnee, Kansas spending most of her time running, playing basketball, or volunteering. For college, she was the first of her family to venture out of state where she attended Azusa Pacific University in Southern California. To demonstrate her tenacity, Bethany finished a five year degree within three years while still having time to participate in extra curricular activities such as: run a marathon, study abroad, plan a wedding, get married!
After 5 years in Southern California and a year in private accounting, Bethany and her husband decided to move back to Shawnee, Kansas to bring restoration and increased function to a community that is active, vibrant and growing passionately in love with health, fitness, and sport.
Q&A with Bethany:
What's the best part of your story so far?
The best part of my story so far is the supporting cast. I have been beyond blessed to have the most amazing support system my whole life. Without my family, I would not be the person I am today. They have loved, disciplined, and challenged me to be a better person. I thank my parents everyday for not taking the easy road when it came to raising me. They spent every waking moment and grain of energy they had to make sure that I grew up knowing right from wrong. My husband has also challenged me beyond words. He has given me a new sense of confidence in myself that I never knew possible. He leads me to be more daring and courageous everyday.
What organization or company inspires you and why?
One organization that inspires me is Lululemon Athletica. The reason I chose them is because, they put a real emphasis on making sure their employees and customers have a balanced life. I think that too often today, people put too much pressure on their employees to make their job their life. Lululemon realizes that there are other aspects of life that should not be ignored. That is why they have each employee fill out a goal sheet. In this goal sheet, the employee will list five fitness, career, and personal goals that they have for themselves. Lulu will then come alongside that employee to help make sure that those goals are achieved. I love that, and in a lot of ways, I want Freedom Physical Therapy to have that same culture for our clients. I want our clients to have the confidence to share their goals and ambitions with us, and then allow us to help them see those through.
What is something no one would ever believe to be true about you?
That I am deathly afraid of public speaking. Although, I will give a presentation when necessary. It is very against my nature.
What are you passionate about related to the work you do in serving others?
Lots of people do not see accounting or finance as an exciting or intriguing job. However, when I look at my job, I see endless opportunities to help others be able to afford health care and better their lives. I am able to make sure that Freedom is doing everything necessary to be the best and most affordable Physical Therapy clinic for those who need us, and that excites me.
What are you doing when you feel most like you?
I feel the most like myself when I am serving and helping others around me. That can come in many different forms. However, I have recently developed a true passion for coaching. There is just something about being part of a team that is irreplaceable.
In an alternative life, what would you want to give a try?
I would have loved to try to be a gymnast. Their dedication and discipline inspires me. However, I am not sure that I could take the constant blisters on my hands
